Bill Belichick voices strong support for Chip Kelly
“Well I was shocked”, Vermeil said Thursday during a guest spot on the 94 WIP morning show.
Hasselbeck also praised the work of interim coach Mike Mularkey and his staff this season.
Bill Belichick has always had respect for Chip Kelly, like here after the Eagles beat the Patriots in November in Foxboro. I know for me personally, I feel like a lot of it is on us. Besides, even if the college kids hate Kelly’s system or Harbaugh’s over-competitiveness, they’ll be out in a year or too, and the coaches will have another team of wide-eyed players with big time dreams. I think the relationship was constantly growing and growing, and I think it was headed in the right direction. I was and still am in complete shock that he is no longer then Head Coach of the Eagles. “I just think it didn’t work out for him in certain places”.
“In terms of what we’re looking for in a coach, it’s several things”, Lurie said. Schematically, there were some things that we could have done differently, obviously. Since that time, he returned to the Patriots, and has been in charge of one of the best offenses in the NFL. It’s not just one guy. Lurie said he made the decision to terminate Kelly on Tuesday because he wanted to get started on the process of finding a new coach. Asked if he expects to be consulted, Murray said it’s “above my pay grade”. Wednesday, at least, the Eagles were trying to deal with what had happened, not with what was to come next.
He said Kelly ignored complaints of overwork in practice. Belichick referenced just one year to build a program because Kelly won 10 games with players acquired by Howie Roseman and Andy Reid in each of his first two seasons.
“I signed a four, five-year deal, and I think this is where I’ll be”, Murray said.
The obvious landing spot being speculated about is Tennessee, where Kelly would be reunited with Marcus Mariota.
“I think I would say it’s really disappointing”, Belichick said.
The Philadelphia Eagles have chose to part ways with head coach Chip Kelly after three seasons, confirming the rumors that had been swirling around the National Football League for weeks. “He does a great job and he’s done a great job with that team”, Belichick said, according to ESPN.com.
Kelly has flirted with the National Football League before, interviewing for the Philadelphia Eagles job that went to Chip Kelly in 2013, but indicated he wouldn’t do that again unless he was offered the universal power he now has at Notre Dame. “It’s disappointing to see”.
Harbaugh and Kelly are both great coaches, but both had trouble dealing with the egos of the professional athletes.
Lurie said he cut Kelly loose a week before the season ends to benefit the team and his former coach.
