Meet Acer’s good looking Windows 10 phone and cut-price Android slate
Acer today unveiled a new smartphone for on-the-go professionals and a pocket-friendly tablet for tech-savvy families.
It first broke cover as a demo for Microsoft’s neat Continuum tech at IFA last September, but the Windows-powered Liquid Jade Primo smartphone didn’t have an official price or release date.
According to Acer, the Liquid Jade Primo boasts a large 5.5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass screen.
To match the launch of their first USB Type-C monitor, the new Liquid Jade Primo features the same type of connector. The 21MP f/2.2 auto-focus rear camera has dual LED flash, and supports up to 4K video recording. Back then it stood out from the crowd of other Acer Windows phones, like the Liquid M330 and M320, mainly because of its superior specs sheet and the presence of Windows 10 Continuum, which was still in its infancy and not rally featured in any commercial devices.
Available with a white or blue back cover, the Iconia One 8 comes pre-loaded with Kids Center: an app featuring videos, games, books, and websites deemed appropriate for children, as well as parental control.
To reduce the heat that resource-intensive multitasking brings, the Liquid Jade Primo features an advanced cooling system that efficiently dissipates the heat from the processor, while also reducing the overall rear surface temperature. So, the smartphone that Acer just announced may come as a bit of a surprise, but it’s a sleek-looking and promising surprise, we have to say! Price and availability in the United States are marked as “to be disclosed”, but in EMEA, the smartphone will launch in February, with prices starting from $620 (€569).
