Chery departs Groningen for QPR
Queens Park Rangers have clinched a potentially significant deal, signing Tjaronn Chery from Dutch club Groningen.
QPR have signed highly rated Tjaronn Chery from Groningen.
The former Twente and ADO Den Haag midfielder joined Groningen permanently in July a year ago, with Chery enjoying an excellent campaign last season, scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances.
Les Ferdinand claims that QPR fought off Premier League clubs for the signature of Tjaronn Chery.
“We’ve been trying to get this one over the line for a while now, so we’re delighted it’s finalised”, Ferdinand told QPR’s official website.
Chery assured fans that he is in the “best years of [his] career”, also saying that he is aware of “how the fans like to see football played” in England.
Chery is an attacking midfielder who had been strongly linked with Premier League club Aston Villa.
“You hear a lot these days about players being versatile and we’ve certainly got that going forward now. He can rotate across that front-line and is very effective in a central or wide role”.
The player himself, meanwhile, described himself as “very happy” to have arrived, and he said that he has spoken to QPR midfielder Leroy Fer ahead of completing his “dream” move to English football.
‘We’ve had him watched at length and we’re really happy we’ve got him on board with a couple weeks to go until the start of the season.’.
