Modi’s surprise visit challenged in Lahore High Court
He questioned the soft corner shown by PM for Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif and said that the Modi government has failed to give befitting reply to Pakistan which has been promoting terrorism in India.
“We appreciate the word praise by Pakistan Prime Minister towards our prime minister but we can not be driven away from such soft and polite words as we have already suffered in the past in the hands of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, you may recall Atal ji’s experience of starting Lahor’s bus and yet we had to face Kargil”.
He said Prime Minister Modi’s visit on December 25, was a step in this direction.
Modi sprang a surprise with a 150-minute visit to Lahore where he greeted Sharif on his birthday and held talks during which they chose to open ways for peace for the “larger good” of the people of the two countries.
He hoped the spirit generated would continue to prevail as “goodwill gestures were solution to many an ills”. The congress used the opportunity to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him as to who is responsible for the death of the Indian soldiers.
Nawaz Sharif later on also left for Zhob to inaugurate the foundation of Western route of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. According to a report in Indian media, external affairs ministry has been asked to keep Modi’s foreign engagements in 2016 to the minimum.
All eyes are now set for the mid January meeting to see how things move forward.
“It has been agreed that we will re-start the dialogue between Pakistan and India”, Sharif said, adding that “progress is being made in bilateral negotiations with India”.
