Feds thwart ISIS-inspired New Year’s Eve attack
“My friend told me, he said that’s him”.
Man in Rochester, New York has been detained for purportedly supporting ISIS and planning an attack on New Year’s Eve. He is now detained.
Officials in the Turkish and Belgian capitals have already said they had disrupted plots targeting such New Year’s Eve celebrations, and a number of cities will have a heightened security presence.
He has been charged with trying to provide material support to ISIS.

Lutchman is due back in court January 8th. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to “menacing” the same woman; specifics of the misdemeanor incident were not immediately available Thursday.
He was described in court papers as having long criminal history including a 2006 robbery conviction that led to a five-year prison sentence and arrests for mental health issues. Lutchman told him he wanted to come to Syria but was informed he couldn’t come now and that he should kill Americans to prove himself, according to the document. Steven Slawinski, his federal defender, declined to comment on the charges.
Lutchman appeared in US District Court for the Western District of NY on Thursday.
The FBI said Lutchman has been communicating with three of its confidential sources since November in conversations that were sometimes recorded.
Lutchman was allegedly in contact with someone overseas, who claimed to be part of terror organization.
“The connection with Dawla (meaning ISIS) is already established”. He told the informant he had been encouraged to kill “100000s of kuffar” on New York’s Eve, the affidavit said.
He “caused more trouble than positive”, Page told the Democrat and Chronicle. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Lutchman allegedly became radicalized while serving time in Attica.
He ultimately went to WalMart where he bought a machete and masks for the job, telling the informant, “It’s going to get real after this”. “It’s just you and me and the Lord”. “We gotta do this”.
Lutchman then began considering a terrorist attack in the Rochester area to prove his allegiance to Islamic State, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said. “They may identify the vehicle”.
“The arrest of Emanuel Lutchman is an important reminder of the new normal of global terrorism”.
“Thankfully, law enforcement was able to intervene and thwart Lutchman’s deadly plans”.
And while those around the globe are on high alert for terrorist acts this New Year’s, NY is said to have no viable threats. “He’s not a hardcore terrorist, y’know?” said Rob Dickerson.
