PM Modi, Sonia Gandhi express grief over BSF aircraft crash
BSF plane carrying military staff turned into a fireball after crashing Tuesday near the airport in New Delhi, killing 10 including 3 BDF Officers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed grief and misery on the lack of lives within the Border Security Force (BSF) aircraft crash within the national capital.
All ten people on board were killed when a Border Security Force (BSF) charted plane crashed in Delhi’s Dwarka area, media reported.
“Sir, why does the soldier’s family have to cry every time?” said a young woman, who had to be held back as she aimed a stream of questions at the silent home minister.
He says part of the plane is submerged under water.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has started the process of setting up a committee of inquiry to probe the reasons for the crash.
In a bid to deflect the criticism, the BSF today said its crashed Superking aircraft was completely “airworthy” and was flying “very well”. The plane, he said, was carrying the stipulated load yesterday and refuted reports that the crash had something to do with excess weight as a few personnel were asked to board it at the last moment. I could spot one body. Immediately after the crash took place, a large contingent from the police and personnel from civil defence was pressed into service.
As many as 15 fire tenders and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the wreckage of the aircaft. “A laborer who was working was also injured”, an eyewitness told reporters.
The government has already announced setting up of a four-member committee, headed by a senior Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) official to carry out the investigation into the causes of the accident. “I don’t know when will these new aircraft come but surely he will not be there to see them”, said the father-in-law of the co-pilot Rajesh Shivrain.
