Mike Shanahan to meet with Dolphins about coaching job
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Mike Shanahan, who hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2013, has expressed interest in the team’s Eagles coaching vacancy.
The interview will come Tuesday, Fox Sports was first to report.
Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls as head coach of the Broncos, also has an interest in the San Francisco 49ers’ open head coaching job. The team has not confirmed the interview, typically waiting until after the interview is complete to make any official announcement. Shahanan has been credited with the development of John Elway, Jake Plummer, Jay Cutler, and he drafted and won games with Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins in Washington.
The most recent coach looking to get back on the sidelines is former Los Angeles Raiders, Denver Broncos and most recently Washington Redskins head coach, Mike Shanahan. NFL Network reported that Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin (Tuesday) and Chicago offensive coordinator Adam Gase (Thursday) will meet with the Dolphins as well.
The Miami Dolphins were the first National Football League team of the 2015-16 season to fire their head coach, letting Joe Philbin go after a disappointing 1-3 start to the season.
The Dolphins have Jay Ajayi under contract and can work to re-sign Lamar Miller, which would give them a potent run attack that someone like Shanahan could employ in his zone running system.
