Samsung has shown off its tiny, portable 2TB SSD
Internally, the SSD T3 features the same controllers with SSD TurboWrite technology and Vertical NAND flash used in each of Samsung’s 2.5-inch SATA solid state drives.
The new T3 device will be of great help to business and IT professionals, content creators, consumers, and other content professional who requires dependable and portable storage drive for storing and moving large multimedia content across various devices.
“As such, the T3 delivers the outstanding performance, storage capacity and durability needed from an external storage device for today’s mobile lifestyle, without compromising on style or security”, Kim added. The biggest improvement to the drive is that Samsung now offers up to 2TB of storage with the T3 PSSD. It weighs only 51 grams or less than 2 ounces and can withstand as much as 1500G of force while also being able to survive a drop of up to 2 meters without getting damaged.
Samsung has not unveiled pricing on the new SSD, which is expected to start shipping out in February of 2016.
Featuring an adopted USB 3.1 Type C connection, the T3 is compatible with a wide range of USB supported devices, including the latest Android smartphones and tablets, and computers with Windows or Mac OS. Despite the naming scheme that suggests a two generational improvement, the T3 Portable SSD is mostly a refresh of the existing T1. Samsung told us that some users thought the T1’s light plastic case felt too insubstantial for the drive’s price. The drive’s integrated Thermal Guard prevents overheating in extreme temperatures, and the T3 comes with a three-year limited warranty. The earlier T1 drives had a slightly larger micro-USB 3.0 port, which didn’t become popular in mobile devices. Do any of you now use external/portable storage? It comes in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions, and supports AES 256-bit hardware encryption, which means security with little performance impact.
