Congress has alleged that around 49 persons linked to the Vyapam scam have died under mysterious circumstances, a charge refuted by the state government. The apex court bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu, Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Amitava Roy, while issuing notice returnable in two weeks, said it was worse than the Vyapam admission and recruitment scam.
The Madhya Pradesh police initially registered a murder case, but then closed the investigations stating that it was a “death by accident”. The Supreme Court had last week transferred all cases relating to the Vyapam scam to the CBI.
Kirar was a member of the Madhya Pradesh Backward Class and Minority Welfare Commission, and had final attended a gathering of the fee greater than six months in the past, the Indian Express stories.
“We agitated the matter in the high court but (it is) not moving”, he told the court. “I can only say that our investigation will be fool-proof and we will be investigating it with the utmost sincerity and to the best of our capability”.
The Central Bureau of Investigation will also probe the state police’s alleged inaction pertaining to these deaths, official sources said.
At the outset of the hearing, counsel Kapil Sibal, appearing for petitioner Ashish Kumar Chaturvedi, urged the court to hand over the probe to the CBI as things were not moving. Sinha said a professional team had been constituted to probe the cases arising out of the scam. Her body was found near rail tracks in Ujjain under mysterious circumstances.
The agency filed a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified people, after the case diary of Namrata’s death was handed over to the CBI on Thursday night.
Earlier, on Wednesday CBI registered five FIRs against 160 accused persons including fugitive BJP leader Gulab Singh Kirar.
A student in the second year of college, she went missing after the college declared its results on 7 January, 2012. The agency is already probing the mysterious deaths of MBBS student Namrata Damor in 2012 and TV reporter Akshay Singh separately.
