Motel standoff ends with suspect stabbing himself
From around 4:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m., he held 11 children and a woman at Rite 4 Us Inn & Suites in Decatur.
A SWAT team in suburban Atlanta rescued a woman and 11 children this morning following a four-hour standoff that ended with the suspected hostage taker stabbing himself.
Thomas is being charged with false imprisonment and obstruction.
It is taking place inside a room at the Rite4Us Inn & Suites location on Snapfinger Woods Drive in Decatur near the intersection of I-20 and Wesley Chapel Road.
DeKalb County interim Police Chief James Conroy tells WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/1SwUZux ) the man was armed with a knife and refusing to let the other people leave the room. Fore said police haven’t determined Thomas’ relationship to the children, who all are related.
Police said he was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. “No one else in the room sustained any injuries”.
Police say as they entered, they found 36-year-old Korrie Thomas had stabbed himself in the neck.
