Rex Ryan to Return in 2016
It doesn’t get much more dramatic than this as the Jets must go through their former coach Rex Ryan in order to make the playoffs.
Pegula expressed the disappointment of management, coaches, players, and fans that expectations were not met. But he gave General Manager Doug Whaley and coach Rex Ryan a vote of confidence, saying he was looking forward to working and collaborating with them in forming a winning future for the organization. He added, “This stable foundation is necessary to achieve long-term success”.
It’s Ryan Fitzpatrick. The game at Buffalo will mark his first return to his former employer’s home-after being released three years ago-and a playoff appearance is at stake.
However, Ryan wasn’t making any predictions today. He has a good supporting cast to help him carry the load both in terms of defense and receiving targets. Nothing would get that jump started faster than the Jets beating Ryan’s Bills on the road and heading straight into the playoffs with that kind of momentum.
In fact he seemed a little subdued today.
“Probably so, because you look at the impact your words have in a negative light, I guess”, Ryan said. “So…” He is the reason that LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams, Richie Incognito, Tyrod Taylor, etc. You get the point of it. He is the one who put this talented team together. But I’m the guy that should be criticized, that’s fine. “You know, you’re playing against a team, you admire where they are at and you wish that was you in that situation. I know that. But I’m excited about…I know we have a lot of guys that are chomping at the bit to play and they recognize the challenge that’s in front of us also”. The New York Jets ground game is averaging 116.4 yards per contest, and Chris Ivory leads the way with 989 yards and seven touchdowns. I could say he was Darth Vader to the Jets Luke Skywalker, but I would rather not label Ryan as such a cool character. “But I don’t want them to do well at my expense”. He is also dealing with soreness in his right elbow and back, but says it’s “nothing really to be concerned about”.
“You’re like, ‘Man, I’m only worth a fifth-round pick?’ It makes you work even harder to prove your worth”.
Over the past five weeks, he’s tossed 13 touchdowns and just one interception, while averaging 305 yards per game in that span. He won’t win the MVP award, but he’s a deserving candidate for the way he’s played late in the year.
“It has some extra meaning to me because I was there for four years and the fans were so great to me and my family”, Fitzpatrick said.
Ryan’s biggest cause of frustration is the criticism directed at his players, particularly an under-performing defense that ranks 20th in the National Football League in yards allowed after finishing fourth previous year.
Then on August 11, IK Enemkpali punched one of those quarterbacks in the face, broke his jaw – and may have saved the Jets’ season in the process. Gang Green can’t overlook the Bills because, like Fitzpatrick said, “We have to take care of business”. We’ve got to continue to do the things we’ve been doing.
