Apple’s smartwatch has Mickey, so Samsung got Snoopy for the Gear S2
Samsung’s not going to make you wander far to find an alternative strap either, and has launched an extensive new range of custom versions, suited to all the Gear S2 Classic models.
Additionally, Samsung has partnered with various designers to produce a number of watch bands for both the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. Like the Apple Watch, it’s made of real gold and it’s not just gold-colored.
The company announced the news during its CES keynote presentation, where it also revealed two new high-end versions of the Gear S2 Classic. New watch faces will include artwork from Keith Haring, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Jeremyville and Burton Morris as well as faces featuring various Peanuts characters.
The rose gold Gear S2 has a leather strap in ivory, and a black leather band is fitted to the platinum model, but each is easily replaceable if you want to change the look.
Apple users have been spoilt rotten in the last 6 months after Google announced that Android Wear would also start working with iOS devices last summer. Samsung says that later in the year, it will “bring the Gear S2 to iOS”, allowing it to compete with the Apple Watch on Apple’s own platform.
For now, it’s not clear which apps will be able to link to the iPhone from the Gear S2 at all.
While it arrived with a lot of hype, not everyone is in love with its boxy design and might prefer the more traditionally round shape of the Gear S2.
