The Madrid job was an Honour – Rafael Benitez
Newly appointed Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has issued reassurances to Gareth Bale amid claims the Welshman was considering his future at the club.
Zinedine Zidane promised to make up for his lack of coaching experience by inspiring Real Madrid to play with the same attacking flair he displayed during his playing career.
Speaking via his official website, Benítez said: “Now, at the end of my time as first team coach of Real Madrid, I would like to use this article to say goodbye to everyone at every level of the club”.
Over 6,000 fans turned up to watch Real train on Tuesday, then Zidane was a little late for his unveiling alongside another club legend and current director Emilio Butragueno.
Zidane will take charge of his first game as manager of Los Blancos against Deportivo at the weekend, and the 43-year-old has received backing from a surprising source this afternoon.
“I have motivation, hope and all that will help me and help everything to go well”.
“But his coaching experience is inversely proportional to his excellent footballer’s experience – limited… and controversial”. James and Isco who are two formidable players will be important for me, for the team, for everyone.
Zidane does not just have the kudos of being a former Ballon d’Or victor, but he was Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant as Madrid won their long-awaited 10th Champions League crown in 2013-2014.
Guardiola followed the same route at Barcelona with his four years in charge at Camp Nou between 2008 and 2012 returning 14 trophies in a glittering spell in the Catalan club’s history. We have to appreciate that their work with Rafa Benitez was very good and I’d like to say good luck to Rafa in everything you’re going to do now. Zidane, one of the most skilful and stylish midfielders to play the game, has been influenced by Ancelotti, former Argentina and Chile coach Marcelo Bielsa and Guardiola.
Zidane said he would continue to play the star trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, although Bale was not happy with Benitez’s firing.
Now that Zidane has been given a two-and-a-half-year deal at Real, Enrique was asked for his opinion on the Frenchman.
The team’s biggest failure this season was a stinging 4-0 home defeat by arch-rivals Barca in November although they did qualify for the Champions League last-16 as group winners.
“I want to take this opportunity I have at the best club in the world”.
“Does it get any better than this?”
“The best person for the job”. “I am going to try to do all I can so that we work well”.
