Faraday reveals sleek, sporty concept car in Vegas
The FFZero1 may just be a concept, but it is quite important not just for Faraday Future, but for the future of all Electric Vehicles, commonly referred to as EVs.
Secretive car-maker Faraday Future has come out swinging at CES 2016 by unveiling a high-performance electric concept vehicle. If you want a closer look at your future Batmobile you can download the free Faraday Future Concept app here. Last month, the company announced that its first manufacturing facility would be located in North Las Vegas, close to where FFZERO1 was unveiled.
The company, backed by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, kept most of its specific plans under wraps leading up to Monday night’s reveal.
Faraday claims 15 per cent more battery capacity than the 85kWh cell in the top Tesla Model S, which is capable of around 430km of all-electric range; that would make Faraday Future’s electric vehicle travel around 500km on a full charge.
The common goal of these employees and Faraday Future?
Headquartered near Los Angeles, Faraday Future will eventually move to a 3m square foot factory in Las Vegas – another interesting parallel with Tesla, which has already started building its Gigafactory in the state.
Although Tesla isn’t attending this year’s CES show, several other manufacturers are expected to show off new electric concepts of their own, including BMW, Volkswagen and General Motors.
If you’re keen on that sort of thing, you can also pair the FFZERO1 with a smartphone for remote vehicle setup and “anticipatory personalisation”.
So in order to hit the fast-moving design targets, Kim and his team had to change their methods.
He explained this meant it would use the same basic underlying structure on all of the company’s vehicles, adapting it to include anywhere from one to four motors, battery packs of various sizes, different types of wheelbases and other optional parts. The Los Angeles-based company insists it’s more than another automotive startup with a crazy-looking, over-powered auto.
Another interesting feature is that people can stick their iPhone right on the steering wheel for navigation, and the vehicle will act as a digital copilot.
