Steely Dan founder charged with assault, court papers say
Donald Fagen, frontman for classic rock band Steely Dan, was arrested and charged with misdemeanour assault last night (January 4) after an altercation with his wife, musician Libby Titus. Fagen was released from jail after an arraignment in Manhattan on Tuesday.
The “Reelin’ In The Years” singer was charged with assault and harassment. A police spokesperson said it was not readily apparent if the complainant had received medical attention for her injuries.
Donald Fagen, half of the core duo behind the venerable jazz-pop group Steely Dan, was arrested Monday evening on charges of misdemeanor assault. Fagen’s representative declined comment to Rolling Stone. “I’m very exhausted and I’m divorcing my husband”. He was ordered to stay away from Titus-who plans to file for divorce, according to Page Six. The order of protection was issued as Fagen was released without bail.
The couple met while attending Bard College in the ’60s and married in 1993.
Fagen launched the band in 1972 with guitarist Walter Becker.
Donald co-founded Steely Dan and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
TITUS is also a successful singer and songwriter best known for the self-titled folk-rock album produced by music legends PAUL SIMON and CARLY SIMON.
