Sony 4K HDR TVs come with a streaming video service to match
Ultra is a new service that will allow users to stream Sony pictures – and that’s Sony pictures only – in 4K on compatible Sony BRAVIA TVs. Being the slightly cheaper one, it misses out on the backlighting structure and Sony’s X-tended Dynamic Range Pro feature which the company says can enhance HDR content even further.
Sony 4K televisions capable of taking advantage of HDR content will be branded with a new “4K HDR Ultra HD” logo.
Sony is also expanding its selection of 4K LCD TVs with HDR, expanding the capabilities of its wireless multiroom-audio products, and launching what is likely the industry’s first USB turntable to convert songs on vinyl to high-res music files.
The two higher-end new Bravia TVs – the XBR-X930D and XBR-X940D – will be available in varying sizes: 55 and 65-inch for the former and 75-inch version for the latter.
The event, on the eve of the opening of the world’s biggest technology show in Las Vegas, was light on major announcements, but it was the audio items that grabbed the crowd’s attention.
That right there is the PS-HX500, and yes, it’s a turntable. Multiple speakers can be used simultaneously.
Sony also unveiled its new Extra Bass (XB) products including the MDR-XB650BT headphones, SRS-XB3 and SRS-XB2 wireless speakers, and GTK-XB7 high power audio system. Of course, the Japanese tech giant will also bring several other new exciting stuff to the show including smart home accessories, audio, photography, smart phones and watches, and other consumer technology.
President and COO Michael Fasulo then introduced some of Sony’s upcoming products to be released within the year.
The show will take place a day before CES itself gets underway, kicking off on 5th January at 17:00 PST (which works out at 01:00 on the 6th for GMT).
