Wildfire Near Lake Berryessa Leads To Evacuations
A wind-whipped wildland fire east of Lake Berryessa had consumed more than 700 acres as of 5 p.m.as it moved from Napa County to Yolo County. It has burned about 700 acres as of 5 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
Officials tell the Napa Valley Register the fire apparently started when a vehicle caught on fire on Highway 121.
Cal Fire says firefighters are having difficulty gaining access to the fire, which was burning through brush-covered rugged terrain. Additional evacuations are being ordered in the Mix Canyon area of Solano County.
Officials are urging visitors and hikers to stay away from the area because the blaze is spreading rapidly near the popular hiking destination.
The weather was working against fire crews.
According to CalFire’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit, the blaze was reported around 2:30 p.m. off Highway 128 near Greaves Road and Lake Berryessa. Four helicopters and six air tankers were assisting in the firefighting effort.
