Price fight puts heat on combo offerings
Burger King is the latest chain to serve up a combo meal with their “five for $4” deal. Wendy’s 4 for $4 deal, on the other hand, includes a junior bacon cheeseburger, 4 chicken nuggets, small fries and a drink. Diners can choose two items for $2 from a menu of small fries, mozzarella sticks, a McDouble and McChicken. Although, these bundle deals may not earn lot of profit for the fast food companies but promotional deals often attract large number of customers who otherwise would not have walked in through the doors.
And chains do their best to make sure regulars stick to the pricier meals they usually order.
The additional food tacked onto those bundled orders helps drive up sales as well. That’s what happened when Burger King tested its “5 for $4” deal in recent months, said Alex Macedo, who heads the chain’s North America business.
Miami, FL (RestaurantNews.com) BURGER KING® Restaurants are kicking off the New Year with a new way to save.
“We believe it’s going to be very profitable for franchisees”, Macedo said in a phone interview.
Fast food rivalries are getting crazier and more interesting this year as several chains launched their newest meal deal promos at incredibly low prices.
Another competitor Pizza Hut has also joined the price war with a seven-item menu in which each item costs $5 if the customer purchases two or more.
The McPick 2 for $2 value offer will run through February 8 and will precede the McPick 2 for $6 menu that will run from February 29 through March 29 and include the Quarter Pounder with cheese, Big Mac sandwich, Filet-O-Fish sandwich, and 10-piece Chicken McNuggets.
Burger king has not yet clarified on how long this promotion would last, though.
