College officially fires professor who questioned Sandy Hook
The school issued Tracy a Notice of Proposed Termination last month after the parents of a child slain at Sandy Hook Elementary complained for being harassed by the professor.
Instead, Tracy sent Coltman a letter dated November 22 explaining why he shouldn’t have to submit the forms, Alperin wrote.
The university gave Tracy 10 days to respond to its December 16 announcement of his planned firing.
Tracy had been assigned to teach three classes for the spring semester, FAU said.
Florida Atlantic University on Tuesday officially fired associate professor James Tracy, best known for his claims that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre may have been staged. The Sandy Hook conspiracy theory is part of a wider, underground and online movement of modern conspiracy theorists who are known as “Sandy Hook truthers”. In recent years, the truther movement has grown drastically online and through social media in response to various mass shootings and tragic national massacres. The university said he did not make it clear that his personal views in the post were not representative of the university.
‘As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers there is a growing awareness that the media coverage of the massacre of 26 children and adults was intended primarily for public consumption to further larger political ends, ‘ he wrote on his blog.
The Pozners wrote an op-ed for The Sun-Sentinel detailing Tracy’s letter, in which he called them “alleged parents” to Noah and demanded they provide proof of parentage after they requested his photo not be used on websites supporting conspiracy theories.
In late November, school officials asked Tracy to submit “Outside Activity Forms” which detail a professor’s outside activities in order to determine whether they conflict with duties or policies at the university.
