LG shows off a TV you can roll up like a newspaper
The company showed similar technology previous year as a proof of concept, but kept images behind closed doors. Other concepts include a 55-inch TV that’s as thin as a piece of paper and a 65-inch set of TVs that can bend inward or outward.
It comes with a flexible OLED panel with HD-class resolution at 1200×810 pixels. At CES 2012, Samsung first showed a 5.5-inch 720p flexible display mean for smartphones, while at SID 2014, Nokia showcased a 5.9-inch 720p OLED flexible display that could be folded into two or three. It’s early days for these kinds of displays but it’s likely that we’re going to see a lot more of them over the next few years.
The Signature TV line-up is all 4K – four times the definition of HD, and LG says they can display one billion colours.
Samsung has revealed its new range of high-end televisions at CES 2016, including a bezel-less, curved 10-bit Quantum dot display TV called the KS9600. It’s no joke carrying computer components around, particularly the monitor, but if you’re able to roll the display up like a newspaper, wouldn’t that be so much more convenient?
LG is using CES 2016 to show off its full range of 4K HDR-enabled OLED TVs, including 55, 65 and 77-inch models. And while it’s certainly an interesting prototype, we’re still left to guess as to what the final consumer form of such a display would look like, and how it would be created to be used in everyday life.
Sitting under the 2.57mm OLED panel is an integrated speaker that also works as a stand. It features a built-in woofer, and can fold behind the glass to allow for wall mounting.
The South Korean company’s behemoth offering was a 98-inch “super UHD” TV with 8K resolution.
LG will also be showing off a 25-inch curved display that’s mounted to the interior of a auto.
