TSA Agents Pat Down 10-Year-Old Girl Over Capri Sun Pouch
Kevin Payne was going through security at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport with his daughter, Vendela, when a TSA agent found a juice pouch in Vendela’s carry-on bag, according to NBC News.
Some critics have less patience with invasive TSA security procedures, however.
“She just had a completely blank stare on her face”.
According to Payne, the agent proceeded to pat Vendela down for almost 2 minutes – a process that he says included the repeated “groping” of her buttocks, thighs, chest, and pelvic area.
In the video, which you can see below, a visibly uncomfortable Vendela does her best to obey the agent’s commands while the agent places her hands all over her.
“I know it’s to keep everybody on the plane safe, but she kept patting me down”. “I felt like screaming, throwing a tantrum, running out of there”.
Payne in the video also repeatedly described the female TSA officer’s actions as groping and said TSA officers initiated the additional screening after finding a Capri Sun drink in her bag.
TSA agents frisked the girl, a process that took almost two minutes.
“Maybe they did everything by the book”.
TSA said in a statement that procedures allow for the pat-down of a child in some circumstances, and that this one followed those approved procedures.
“The remainder of the time was spent mitigating the concerns of the father and discussing screening procedures”, the agency said. TSA pat-downs of kids should be short and efficient, Minges adds.
“I’m a very big proponent of security, and if they were patting me down no problem, but this was a 10-year-old girl”, Payne said. “If they can say a friendly comment, something like, “I know this is inconvenient, I’ll do this as fast as possible” it’s letting them know that they are going to be ok”.
