NewsAlert: Accused drunk driver Marco Muzzo will plead guilty to multiple charges
Greenspan also said Muzzo will address the court at some point during the process. He has also asked for a trial in front of judge alone.
Marco Muzzo will plead guilty in relation to the vehicle collision that resulted in the deaths of three children and an adult.
That sort of debate came to a shuddering halt December 15 and a new argument began after an experienced lawyer told yorkregion.com he’s been hearing rumours about a plea deal in the works at the Newmarket Courthouse.
Greenspan would not comment on the length of sentence he would propose for his client. He’ll be sentenced on February 23rd and 24th.
He indicated Muzzo will plead guilty to various, but not all, charges.
“It’s been a very long and hard ordeal but he’s wanted this matter to be closed and the chapter to be closed as quickly as possible”, he said.
The average sentence would usually be eight to 10 years, but with time served, Muzzo could serve as little as two years in prison, according to the outside lawyer.
9 year old Daniel, 5 year old Harrison, and 2 year old sister Milly Neville-Lake, along with their grandfather Gary Neville, were killed after their mini-van was struck in Vaughan.
The children’s grandmother and great-grandmother were seriously injured in the crash.
He has mae a number of brief court appearances in Newmarket – a lot of them by video from jail – since the crash.
Numerous members of the Muzzo and Neville-Lake families were present in court, including Muzzo’s fiancée.
“What possessed you to do this?” Neville-Lake said she did not expect Wednesday’s development, and she is hesitant to believe it until the plea has been formally submitted next month.
The couple has expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received since their children’s deaths, having received thousands of Facebook messages.
“This is the only part we have left”, Jennifer Neville-Lake said. Their construction company, Marel Contractors, is estimated to be worth more than $1 billion.
