Obama ridiculed on social media after shedding tears about gun control
President Obama’s executive orders to tighten restrictions on guns were met with mixed reaction in Wisconsin.
Supporters praised the sincerity of his ‘powerful’, ‘heartfelt’ speech. The changes to the definition of a gun dealer will most affect private sellers who come to the shows, but Martin said he didn’t know what the changes will accomplish.
Obama wiped tears from his cheeks as he spoke emotionally about the victims of gun violence.
“And by the way, it happens on the streets of Chicago everyday”, the president added the nation’s current gun woes. There’s already laws out that says if you sell guns, you need to be registered and you need to do background checks. “We’ll be making sure that people have a very clear understanding of what can make a difference and what we can do”, Mr Obama said.
In addition to that request, Obama called for an addition of 250 Federal Bureau of Investigation agents to process background checks around the clock, and $500 million to go toward improving access to mental health care. But the Justice Department is warning sellers that courts have convicted people for dealing without a license even when they’ve sold as few as two guns.
Obama’s package of executive actions aims to curb what he’s described as a scourge of gun violence in the USA, punctuated by appalling mass shootings in Newtown, Connecticut; Charleston, South Carolina; and Tucson, Arizona, among many others. A parent can transfer a family gun to a son or daughter without any paperwork unless state laws require it, and none do in Texas.
“The sales have been real heavy, and a lot of those individuals, like I mentioned, are first time buyers, because they feel the need for a gun in their house”, said Owner Ken Freiburger.
“With any government regulation, once they get the law passed then they take the next step and the next step”, said Grand Junction resident Jim Lance.
President of the club Jesse Weston says, “The way I see it, none of these (new) laws would have prevented any of the recent, or former gun violence attacks”.
Republicans will no doubt tear this reasonable measure to pieces, but before this issue gets talked to death, may we just say thank you, Mr. President; it’s about time.
