Ben McAdoo scheduled to interview with Eagles on Thursday
FOX Sports has learned that Chicagooffensive coordinator Adam Gase, Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and New York Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo are among the candidates the Eagles will consider pursuing as replacements for the fired Chip Kelly.
Another bit of news to emerge Wednesday was the New York Post’s report that the Eagles had set up an interview with Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. They can not afford to lose this matchup. It was a historic game that gave Spagnuolo a ton of fame and helped land him a head coaching job in St. Louis.
In his first season under McAdoo, Manning completed 63.1 percent of his passes and tossed interceptions at just a 2.3 percent clip.
The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t necessarily any closer to naming their next head coach, but they seem to be circling a few specific candidates about two weeks into their search.
Mara and general manager Jerry Reese will conduct the interviews and recommend a candidate for the rest of the Giants’ brass and co-owner Steve Tisch.
“I think he did the best he could with what he had”, Mara said on Tuesday. I think he shows some leadership skills. The Eagles have yet to request permission to speak with Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, who filled the same role with the Eagles in 2009 and 2010.
Gase’s interview with the Eagles lasted eight hours, according to Jeff McLane of Philly.com. On one hand, looking at the numbers from this year, it appears that his defense was largely the reason the team went 6-10 and missed the playoffs, leading to the end of Coughlin’s tenure.
Once the Eagles sit down with McAdoo, he will be the fourth candidate to interview for the job, following Duce Staley, Pat Shurmur and Gase.
At the same time, Spagnuolo was also the defensive coordinator back when the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2007. Marrone, a Bronx native, was a strong consideration for the Jets opening a year ago.
