Gun buyer in San Bernardino attack faces arraignment
The San Bernardino massacre was one of the most bad terrorist attacks since the attack on September 11.
Fourteen people were killed and 22 were injured when the couple barged into a holiday party attended by Farook’s co-workers.
“The covert nature of the defendant’s alleged actions is a stark reminder of the challenges we face in preventing attacks planned in the name of violent jihad and underscores the critical need for those with knowledge about terror plots to come forward”, he said.
FBI Director James Comey has said the couple had been “radicalized” long before the shooting, even prior to being married. “It very well may not be an important fact, but until we close that gap we just don’t know for sure”.
“We’re dark”, he said yesterday. “This is not an average investigation”. The mass murderers were killed in a gun battle with police hours later. Enrique Marquez, 24, also is accused of plotting at least two other assaults with Farook in 2011 and 2012 that were not carried out.
“This seems to be an inspired terrorist act”, he said.
Law enforcement located SUV/suspects at approximately 2:52 p.m. The time frame of mystery activity is 12:59 p.m.to 1:17 p.m.
The federal authorities are focused on a bespectacled former Walmart employee, Enrique Marquez, and his purchase of a pair of rifles used in the attack that claimed 14 lives.
Tashfeen Malik and Syed Rizwan Farook were photographed at O’Hare Airport in 2014. They can’t account for the husband-and-wife team’s whereabouts during an 18-minute window the day of the massacre.
Her is a look at the timeline provided by ABC News.
A knock on the door at the home of Farook’s brother and sister-in-law went unanswered earlier this week, as well as a note left for the family. Shortly thereafter, Farook introduced him to radical Islamic ideology.
But the charges allege that by buying the guns for someone else, Marquez made false statements on the background paperwork.
NBC4 is attempting to contact Marquez’s attorneys for comment.
Marquez, who was working at Walmart the time, clocked in at 7 a.m. A status conference, where motions in the case may be heard, will be February 8. Farook later exposed him to extremists beliefs like those of the late American al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.
When Farook returned to the event at 10:56 am, he was with his wife. Those guns were used in the San Bernardino attack.
