Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj has Borussia Dortmund loan cut
Adnan Januzaj is due to return to Manchester United after his parent club moved to terminate his loan deal with Borussia Dortmund.
After Van Gaal agreed to loan the Belgian back, he said: “I have said to Januzaj that I will give him opportunities in the position of nine and maybe of 10”.
For those who hadn’t been following Januzaj’s progress out in Germany, he had played a meagre 600 minutes of football this season with Dortmund and started a grand total of zero games for them in the Bundesliga.
Van Gaal had hoped the Belgian would gain valuable experience by playing regularly for Dortmund but he was never deemed good enough by Thomas Tuchel to start in the German elite division.
His contract at United runs through 2018.
Januzaj’s lack of success at Dortmund will be a particular disappointment.
Manchester United have failed in their efforts to sign Sadio Mane before the end of the January transfer window. “I want him to play all the matches and that is why I want to play him also in the Premier League but he chose for Borussia Dortmund”.
“We have to wait and see [if the move works out] because now he doesn’t play”.
Januzaj was one of the few positives to come out of David Moyes spell in charge of the Red Devils, scoring twice on his full league debut at Sunderland in 2013 – a season in which he made 35 appearances for United.
“Talent is important, but so is the character to develop your talent”.
