Baalke: ‘When you’re 5-11, it’s not all coaching’
So we don’t know too much more Monday than we did Sunday about the direction of the team or whether it will be able to hire a coach of quality given the fact the Baalke is back, the quarterback situation is unsettled, the propensity for leaks and infighting at the facility and the fact that they just canned their coach after one year on the job, painting a picture of instability. Unlike the awful 2004 season, this 49ers team does have some budding talent – a nice mix of younger veterans and up-and-coming contributors.
“I hear your criticism – loudly – whether that’s talking to fans directly, whether that’s social media or from planes flying over my head”, the team’s CEO said. But will things get better or worse going forward?
Hayne is heading back to Australia on holiday, but whether or not he’ll be returning to the west coast of the United States later this year is anyone’s guess.
As for what type of coach York said he’s seeking, the owner said it’s one who can go the distance. And then… you can call it ‘mutual, ‘ I mean, I wasn’t going to put the 49ers in the position to have a coach that they didn’t want any more.
York said Tomsula was the only member of the staff who was dismissed.
It seems likely now that the 49ers will pursue Sean Payton, the New Orleans Saints head coach, to fill the void, if he is available.
At least, they did not like his replacement as much because Tomsula was sacked yesterday following his team’s 19-16 overtime win over the St. Louis Rams.
York declined to address reports that former National Football League head coaches Mike Holmgren and Chip Kelly, who was sacked last week by the Eagles, had reached out to the 49ers about their vacancy. Then, when we lost half of our good players to early retirement, not-as-early retirement, and free agency, you held the fork right up to your eyeball, but still managed to keep from plunging it in.

Clearly, whatever the 49ers saw in Tomsula did not work, as he led the team to an 5-11 season. That we deserve more and are going to get more. The 49ers will have several holes to fill this offseason and general manager Trent Baalke will have some tough decisions to make concerning the direction franchise. “And now we’re going to have that taste in our mouth the rest of the (year)”.
“We’re in need of somebody who can win Super Bowls, period”. I think I understand what fans want.
San Francisco quickly marched into Rams territory and on second-and-10 from the 38, Blaine Gabbert hit wide receiver Quinton Patton on a 33-yard pass to the 5.
If it is a team or head coach that Jim Tomsula has never worked with before, he might need to answer questions about what happened with Jim Harbaugh.
