Intel’s new Compute Stick is a Core M Skylake-powered PC Stick
The more powerful Core m5 version will be priced at $499 (£341, AU$706), and both versions will ship with Windows 10.
The Sticks also offers a matte plastic casing, and will ship with Windows 10.
The Computer Stick with Intel Atom processor is available now for a retail price of $159.
Compared to the last year’s Compute Stick variants that have Intel Atom processors and Windows 8.1, the new Compute Stick has Intel Core M (Skylake) processors and Windows 10 operating system.
The original Intel Compute Stick was launched a year ago with the ability to transform any of compatible HDTV into a full-fledged Windows running computer.
Stick PCs tend to be powered by a single USB port, but these new units need a little more juice than that can provide.

In addition to these Compute Sticks, newcomers Tronsmart and Kangaroo have carved out slightly different takes on the mini PC category.
The only model available has an Atom x5-Z8300 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.
Buyers can choose between two Core M CPUs: the Core m3-6Y30, which is a two-core, four-thread unit with 900Mhz base and 2.2Ghz turbo speeds, and the Core m5-6Y57, which bumps clocks to 1.1GHz base and 2.8GHz turbo speeds.

It comes now with two USB ports, one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0, whereas last year’s Compute Stick only had one USB 2.0 port. It also now supports dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, giving it a much stronger connection than last year’s model.
We have a Cherry Trail Compute Stick in our hands already for testing but I am very curious to see how both the Core m3 and Core m5 version of the device improve on it with performance and usability. And it’s obviously not as powerful as the Core M models. Wireless is provided by an Intel 8260 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 combo adapter, the latest version of Intel’s wireless chipset.
These two models only have one USB port, but have two additional USB ports on its power charger so the user can still plug in peripherals.
