Psychonauts 2 Reaches $3.3 Million Crowdfunding Goal
We interviewed the creators of Fig back in August, asking how the new platform has attracted the attention of Double Fine, Obsidian and inXile, as well as Harmonix and 5th Cell.
Psychonauts 2 has raised a whopping $3.3 million from the fundraising website Fig. The upcoming video game reached its funding goal with five days to spare.
The announcement is accompanied by a “Thank you” video message, which can be seen below.
“Holy Smokes! We did it you guys!” reads a brief note. According to Double Fine, a majority of these sales came after the game was re-released on Steam several years after originally hitting the PS2 and Xbox, where the game only managed to sell almost half a million copies.
The Fig crowdfunding resource allows for actual investment in a project, rather than simple donations. In Psychonauts 2, Raz will realize his dreams and visit the Psychonauts Headquarters as a fully established agent.
In an update created today, Double Fine posted the “Final PSI Cadet Mission”; a way for fans of the game as well as backers to partake in a community event in the guise of a military operation. However, in order to do so, Tim and his team of devs needed to raise $3 million in funds.
Investors will get their rewards when the game reports gross profit in excess of $14.3 million. Double Fine is now guessing that the game will launch in the fall of 2018.
