Oculus Rift Pre-Orders: Here’s How to Get One Early
Facebook’s Oculus VR division has revealed in a recent announcement that its much-anticipated Rift virtual reality (VR) headset will be available for pre-order on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.
Preorders for the Oculus Rift have opened, and with them comes more information: the Rift will be shipping at some point in March, for $599. And with VR headsets from HTC and Valve, Oculus, and Sony all hitting the market it shouldn’t be too long now before we get a reboot of 1992’s The Lawnmower Man. “More than 100 virtual reality games and other experiences are coming this year”, said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
You can pre-order now from the Oculus shop, where orders are limited to one per customer.
But the headset costs $599 – and also requires a high-powered computer to be able to run it.
As well as the headset, those who pre-order the Rift receive a remote Xbox One controller for gaming, as well two launch games – EVE Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale. This means the company has already sold through its initial allotment for the Rift.
Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will field questions during a Reddit AMA set to begin at 6:00 pm on Wednesday (0200 GMT Thursday).
Loyal Oculus Rift supporters, who have supported the virtual reality device since it first appeared in a Kickstarter campaign back in 2012, will be rewarded. Oculus said its Oculus Studios will roll out over 20 games for the device this year, including a version of the music game Rock Band. It has an expected launch date of April 2016.
