Casio Smart Outdoor Watch will debut with Android Wear this April
Casio is taking Android Wear outside with its new WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch.
Looking just like a more modern and smart version of G-shock, the new device is powered by Android Wear and tries to make the most of the platform with features that are nowhere to be seen right now on the market.
The Smart Outdoor Watch’s 1.32-inch screen has a monochrome time-only mode that can extend battery life up to a month. Casio equipped the watch with waterproof and shockproof ability that meets United States military MIL-STD-810 standards according to Phone Arena’s report. At CES this year, Casio takes yet another step forward with the reveal of the Casio WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch. It also features a rugged case and band in line with Casio’s Edifice and Protrek series of sports watches. The device will only display the watch data in monochrome when set in this mode. The Casio Smart Outdoor Watch measures 61.7mm x 56.4mm x 15.7mm with a weight of 93grams and runs Android Wear out of the box. When pressed, the WSD-F10 will display data related to compass direction, air pressure, altitude, tide graphs, “activity graphs”, and times for sunrise and sunset. The watch will come in four colors and will be available in April for $500. Its operating buttons are large and feature a slip-free finish to allow users operate it with gloves on. The Apple watch is more slender and was designed more for everyday use, while the Casio watch was designed more for the outdoor lovers and is chunkier.
Other features of the Casio WSD-F10 include a ViewRanger GPS app for trekking, Runkeeper, MyRadar, Timepiece Mode. Not only that, despite the seemingly complicated slew of functions, it is also easy to use that any novice can get started right from the get go. They can also tap into apps providing email alerts, weather updates, maps, and voice search.
Android Wear smartwatches have been created to deliver convenience and ease of access, and device manufacturers have made it as a battleground for classy, premium entries for people who seek it. However, there seems to be an obvious absence of rugged Android Wear smartwaches, leaving only standard watches to provide time for its demographic.
The WSD-F10 is compatible with Android 4.3 and later, and an iPhone 5 or later running iOS 8.2 or later.
