Tesla Who? Faraday Reveals Futuristic Electric Car
Radar, camera sensors and a remote-sensing technology called Lidar will help cars see their surroundings and decide what actions to take. Build a damn spaceship.
“We’re working with the biggest and best battery cell suppliers in the world and working with them to design the architecture and battery packs, which will be done in house, in a way similar to the Tesla model”, Sampson says. Showing a concept is the easy way out for Faraday – its impressive specifications won’t be put to the test and the vehicle itself won’t be mass produced – but as a vision of what the company wants to be, it underwhelmed.
Nick Sampson, Faraday’s senior vice president of research and development and product development, noted that when Faraday does release its first production auto to market in a couple of years, it will be something more approachable.
When it all comes together, the FFZERO1 can indeed fly.
Powering this all-electric racer are 4 quad core motors producing over 1,000-hp, propelling the FFZERO1 Concept from 0-60mph in less than 3-seconds, reaching a top speed of over 200mph. But companies from Silicon Valley to Detroit will use the CES gadget show in Las Vegas this week to demonstrate that autonomous vehicle technology is heading for prime time.
Faraday Future, the long secretive electric vehicle startup, has come out of stealth mode. However, since I’ve always found the Teslas that gearhead greenies seem to fawn over at every opportunity to be outwardly boring and under-styled. But Faraday Future, which is also based in California, has beaten Apple to it.
If electric cars really are the future, let that future look like the FFZERO1. The FFZERO1 doesn’t actually say a lot about the upcoming production model, but we do know the concept rides on the Variable Platform Architecture (VPA) and the batteries sit in modular strings located centrally.
In an interview with Jalopnik, Kim stated the company has a more realistic functioning concept, just not yet on display, “It’s already through the feasibility shakedowns and test-driving out on roads”, said Kim. It also only has one seat.
