Monday ad blitz: 2016ers hit the airwaves
It then ticks through the state’s high taxes and low job growth and turns to a scandal where top aides to Christie shut down a bridge as retribution for a mayor who didn’t support his re-election.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s campaign plays up the threat of ISIS in a new ad airing in New Hampshire.
Christie’s team is hitting back.
It’s “fair game” to bring up former President Bill Clinton’s past infidelities on the campaign trail, Christie said Tuesday, though he argued there are more effective ways to attack Hillary Clinton. And our hunch is that Christie’s financial situation didn’t improve from October to December. Cruz shrugged off the Trump’s changed position with a tweet linking to a “Happy Days” video showing Fonzie jumping the shark.
The ads are a “significant part of an ongoing multi-million dollar buy in New Hampshire”, according to a spokesperson for the super PAC. Interestingly the other candidate whose seen his support drop is Ted Cruz, who’s gone from 13% to 10% with his favorability remaining steady at 54/29 this month to 53/28 last month.
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, President Obama gave Chris Christie his personal phone number written on a small piece of paper, the New Jersey governor told a town hall Monday night.
National Review, citing unnamed sources with the Rubio PAC, reported the ads were to go up on the air and online Tuesday in New Hampshire, where Christie has focused his campaign. In those last six elections, only one Northeast state has backed a Republican for president: New Hampshire, in 2000.
Now that the holiday season has passed, campaigns are starting a blitz of television ads that will blanket the airwaves in Iowa and New Hampshire until the first votes are cast in those two states in early February. “I think every successful campaign is about tomorrow, not about yesterday… voters don’t vote on what you did”. But right now, that establishment cavalry hasn’t arrived – it screams volumes that Rubio hasn’t released his 4th quarter fundraising totals. Rubio promised, “If I am our nominee, voters will be reminded of it time and time again”. And here’s a sample of what we heard from Republicans just today. But that shot doesn’t seem as easy to make as it looked a month ago.
“It’s all about New Hampshire”.
“Because we’ve got a message here in New Hampshire that’s resonating with voters, connecting with them and that I’m the best messenger in this field”.
Cruz lashed out at Rubio in a statement. That is a clear sign that Trump isn’t fading away, at least nationally. “We put a reserving policy in that when I left, my successor had $9.5 billion of reserves – not many politicians do that except for committed conservatives with a proven record”. “Not only is Hillary Clinton incompetent, she’s also a liar”. Obama announced on Tuesday a series of executive actions that would include expanding mandatory background checks for some private sales.
But Trump refrained from repeating comments he made just prior to the evening rally, insinuating GOP rival Ted Cruz would face years of lawsuits if elected president, due to his Canadian birth. If the gun fight is about substance (with overwhelming majorities supporting background checks), that’s a fight the Obama White House (and Democrats) can win.
“Chris Christie could well be Obama’s favorite Republican governor”, the narrator in one spot says. She also had this deliciously dismissive sentence: “Chris Christie is now about as serious a presidential prospect as Donald Trump”. Hillary Clinton remains in Iowa, making three stops in the Hawkeye State (as well as speaking with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews)… He is an interventionist, like his mentor and rival Jeb Bush, calling for bolstered military to protect American interests overseas.
