Eagles impressed by Adam Gase, will hold 2nd interview
Gase is the top coordinator this offseason in terms of coaches in line to land a head coaching position.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport cited sources in a tweet Wednesday, saying he the Eagles may be planning to host Gase for a second interview this weekend. Before interviewing Gase, the team met with running backs coach Duce Staley and offensive coordinator/interim coach Pat Shurmur. So far neither of those two have a 2nd sit down scheduled with Philadelphia. Haslam has fired three coaches since taking over in 2012. He’s scheduled to meet with the Browns on Wednesday, the Dolphins on Thursday and the Giants on Friday as well for their head coaching vacancies, according to various reports. Though, the team to watch may be the Eagles.
According to Pro Football Talk, The Eagles, Browns and Dolphins are all aggressively pursuing the 37-year-old assistant, who is credited with reviving Jay Cutler’s career.
Today, local news in Philly is contradicting those claims, saying that Gase doesn’t have that second interview, at least not right now. He interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.
The Eagles have already complied with the Rooney rule, meaning they could officially hire Gase as soon as this weekend. In quarterback Ryan Tannehill, the Dolphins have a young leader who they believe can lead them to a Super Bowl. In cutting DeSean Jackson, trading LeSean Mccoy, and not re-signing Jeremy Maclin, Kelly turned a once prolific offense into a shell of its former self. It’s not exactly the most inviting destination for a first-time head coach.
That being said, I wouldn’t necessarily be down on Gase if he ended up being the guy.
