Autonomous car breakthroughs to be featured at gadget show
During the presentation Faraday Future’s Head of Global Design, Richard Kim, placed specific emphasis on these two components, alluding to their implementation to the road ready models of their vehicles. Faraday Future says the FFZERO1 needs less than three seconds until 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) and will top out at around 200 mph (322 kph).
The company claims that their electric auto will be as revolutionary as the iPhone. We are developing clean, intuitive, seamlessly connected electric vehicles that will advance future mobility solutions for society by consistently challenging the status quo, reinventing our processes, and embracing new technologies.
The FFZERO1 concept features a sparse interior with a smartphone-powered steering wheel; and Faraday Future is not ruling out autonomous driving capabilities, suggesting the vehicle could get itself to the track before the driver gets in to race the thing.
On the surface, it looks like a machine straight out of a sci-fi film but, its design is not just for aesthetics.
Faraday’s head designer, who previously worked on BMW’s i3 and i8 cars, explained during the official presentation that the FFZERO1 integrates styling cues that will be end up on the company’s production cars scheduled to appear in the next few years.
As expected, carbon fiber and lightweight composite construction throughout, all sitting on an advanced high-performance racing suspension which includes dynamic control and torque vectoring. “Aero tunnels” built into the car’s body reduce drag to help it achieve those speeds, while also cooling its giant batteries. Oh, and did we mention that the vehicle will deliver water and oxygen to the driver through an accompanying helmet accessory, just as if you were an astronaut? They’re looking at innovative ways to own and use your vehicle. Among the hot topics was what Faraday Future, a two-year-old company backed by Chinese Internet billionaire Jia Yueting, would finally show the public.
Faraday Future has only been around for 18 months, and employs only around 550 staff, however it has big plans for expansion.
