Colts to hire Monachino as new defensive coordinator
Indianapolis hasn’t formally announced the hiring of the Baltimore linebackers coach but Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters that Monachino is the selection to replace the fired Greg Manusky.
The Indianapolis Colts have turned to Baltimore for another coach.
Monachino, 49, had been with the Ravens since 2010.
It is widely believed that Monachino, who has never been a defensive coordinator at either the college or pro level, would eventually be the successor to current Ravens defensive coordinator Dean Pees.
The Colts haven’t wasted time changing up the coaching staff after retaining Chuck Pagano.
The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly hired Ravens linebackers coach Ted Monachino as their new defensive coordinator, according to National Football League reporter Ian Rapoport.
Monachino takes over a blitzing 3-4 defensive scheme that broke down when an inconsistent pass rush didn’t get pressure, thus exposing cornerbacks expected to play tight man-to-man coverage. Make sure to check in regularly for updates on all of the team’s moves. Many had speculated that Monachino was waiting in the wings to become the DC in Baltimore when needed, something that now appears very unlikely to happen.
