Shenmue 3 Paypal backers denied Kickstarter-exclusive rewards “as originally”
Could this rift in the community cause Ys Net to not keep those they love? The problem here is that developers don’t offer PayPal backers exclusive Kickstarter rewards. 6,432 (42.6%) said that they didn’t mind either way. 4,009 respondents on the other hand were against it, “No, Kickstarter Exclusive Rewards are for Kickstarter only”. But when you factor in the “Either is fine with me” option, it arguably gives the developer the deciding call, which it took to deny PayPal backers.
“Since the launch of the Paypal campaign we have received numerous requests to remove exclusivity from certain Kickstarter rewards and make them available for the Slacker Backer campaign as well”, a representative explained in an email.
It’s worth noting that those who pledged on PayPal are still getting the rewards for whatever tier they paid for.
Some of Kickstarter-exclusive backer rewards for Shenmue III are things like a desktop wallpaper set and in-game items such as a capsule toy and a “wishing plaque” featuring the backer’s name and birthdate.
As you may or may not know, after the conclusion of Shenmue III’s wildly successful Kickstarter campaign creator Yu Suzuki revealed that a new campaign would begin for those who would like to donate through PayPal. “We hope everyone will continue to let their voices be heard as we go forward with the project”. It is also not known if the PayPal backers will try to bring any action against Ys Net for breaking a promise, then claiming it was the polls that led to the decision when the polls show the opposite.
Comments from the Shenmue 3 Kickstarters about the developers’ decision to not share the “exclusive” Kickstarter rewards with Slacker Backer donators. “Why bother have the poll if you aren’t going to stick with the results”. At the same time, why punish late backers? They said they didn’t care which is more like a yes vote.
