Dana White Insists Ronda Rousey Will be Back in The Octagon
The former undefeated champion is now serving a six month’s suspension following her brutal lost to the new title holder, Holm. UFC President Dana White confirmed on Wednesday’s episode of UFC Tonight that Holm will indeed fight before her second showdown with Rousey. Holm, however, stated she would like to defend her title sooner than that and referenced Miesha Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) as a title-worthy contender.
“You will see Ronda Rousey fight again”, White said, reports FOX Sports. She will be the first MMA fighter to host the show, even though boxers George Foreman and Marvin Hagler have previously done it.
Details about Holm’s contract were not revealed by White or Fresquez, but according to the LA Times report, the contract extension is supposed to cover eight fights.
Rousey joins a long, respectable line of athletes who have hosted SNL, and her appearance is a significant accomplishment.
A Holm vs. Rousey rematch would be massive, but if Tate could dethrone Holm, a trilogy fight against Rousey, who defeated Tate in two heated fights, would be an excellent consolation prize.
Holm, of course, shocked the world by knocking out Rousey to claim the belt last November.
It was announced this week that she will be hosting NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on January 23 with Selena Gomez as musical guest, per the Los Angeles Times. The loss to Holm already allowed future opponents to get a peak at possible weaknesses in her once un pregnable attack. She’s dedicated the last three years to working hard, fighting, promoting and taking the UFC to the next level. I just don’t want to wait around for things if they are not set in stone. Will she break the news about an upcoming fight?
