CES 2016: Huawei bets big on mid-range Android phones
We reported last week Huawei’s Honor smartphone sub-brand would be launching in the United States sometime this year. It packs the same technical specifications as the present Huawei watches; including 1.4-inch screen with resolution 400 x 400 pixels, 400 Snapdragon processor, coupled with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage. The 16GB inbuilt storage on the can be expanded via MicroSD card up to 128GB.
The terminal comes pre-loaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop, of course, customized with Huawei’s EMUI skin. At a CES event marked by confident proclamations about millennials and excessive hoverboard stunts, the company revealed that its 5X smartphone will be available later this month for $199.99.
The 4G enabled Huawei Honor 5X comes in a dual-SIM version (Micro-SIM and Nano-SIM) with dual-4G standby support.
While it is unquestionably a mid-range device, the Honor 5X does offer a number of features that have previously been reserved for higher-end devices. Other features in the phone include a fingerprint reader and a 3,000mAh battery.
In the camera department, the Honor 5X sports a 13MP rear shooter with Huawei’s SmartImage 3.0 processor for better photography in dim light conditions. On paper, the Honor 5X looks like it could be another good option for folks whose primary concern when shopping for a smartphone is affordability.
“Inspired by the shape and design of the famous Guggenheim Museum Bilbao”, the Honor 5X has an aluminum alloy body that has been polished by diamonds with ceramic coating brushed on using a special technique. Like most OEMs these days, save for those very budget-consciosu ones and knockoffs, Huawei has gone for a metal design, in this case an all metal unibody structure.
The Huawei Honor 5X tagged as a “no-nonsense smartphone” brings premium features such as a metallic design and a fingerprint scanner at a relatively affordable price.
Finally, the Honor Hybrid Earphones will launch in the U.S. on January 31 for $59.99.
