What could you buy with the Powerball jackpot?
While there was no jackpot victor in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, there were still thousands of winning tickets sold in Minnesota. How should you pick them?
The biggest jackpot so far was $656 million in the 2012 Mega Millions lottery.
That’s because no one matched the winning numbers of 2, 11, 47, 62, 63 and the Powerball number 17 in Wednesday’s drawing.
Lottery ticket sales in Arkansas have received a boost from a Powerball jackpot now at $700 million, an all-time high for any US lottery prize, state lottery officials said Thursday.
If multiple tickets hit the winning numbers, the prize money is split evenly between them.
Last night’s draw saw one person net $2 million and another 12 people net $1 million each. In case there is no victor in the Powerball drawing on Saturday, the Powerball jackpot could break the $1 billion barrier. Odds to win one of the prizes are one in 24.9, while odds to win the jackpot are about one in 292 million.
The Wisconsin Lottery said a $150,000 Powerball victor was sold at M&R Travelmart in Baraboo, and a $50,000 victor was sold in Menomonie. Powerball is played in 44 states including California, plus the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Winners are advised to sign the lottery ticket as soon as they get the chance. Sure, the government just took $270 million, but $430M is still more than most of us have in our bank accounts (unless you’re Mark Zuckerberg or Michael Bloomberg). But a couple bucks for a shot at $700 million?
