IPhone 7 dual rear cameras could vastly improve your photos
The company notes that as iPhones and other multifunction devices become common place, users are demanding feature such as zoom photography that they have been become accustomed to using in dedicated-purpose camera bodies. Moreover, later in 2015, a report surfaced that Apple might implement the dual-camera technology in its forthcoming iPhone 7.
The patent, discovered by Patently Apple, describes a dual camera system, with the main benefit being the ability to zoom in while taking pictures without seeing a noticeable drop in resolution. Rather than losing clarity when you zoom in on an image, the dual cameras would work in tandem to create a clear image. In some embodiments, the first camera unit includes a first optical package with a first focal length.
The summary of the application reveals that with dual-camera modules, users will be able to swap between two focal lengths with standard and telephoto sections.
Adding two cameras that will carry different optical packages with distinctive focal length. The patent also describes images being combined or preserved to the storage medium as separate data structures for later processing.
According to a recent patent application, Apple’s anticipated next-generation handset, the “iPhone 7”, could feature not one rear-facing camera, but two.
This is not the first time the company is reported to be working on enhancing its devices.
Naturally, nothing here is concrete evidence that Apple is actually going to have two cameras in the next iPhone. A second camera unit of the multifunctional device simultaneously captures a second image of a second visual field.
Similarly, one camera could capture the video via normal playback, while the other may help with timelapse or slow motion.
According to a report in 9to5Mac, last year, Apple’s acquisition of LinX, which specialises in making “miniature multi-aperture cameras designed for mobile devices”, does support and justify this news. It should also be understood that, in some embodiments, the device is not a portable communications device, but is a desktop computer with a camera. In other embodiments, the device is not a portable communications device, but is a camera. Considering that this is a patent application, the timing of such a product to market is unknown at this time. Comments are reviewed daily from 5am to 6pm MST and sporadically over the weekend.
