Pakistan In Touch With India Over Airbase Attack: FO
The operation against the terrorists at the air base entered its fourth day today as security forces continue to carry out combing operations to smoke out any remaining terrorist.
Sirmed said most Pakistan-India observers were anticipating such a terror attack, ever since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised the world by flying into Lahore to meet Sharif on Christmas.
“The government of Pakistan has spoken very powerfully to this and it’s certainly our expectation that they’ll treat this exactly the way they’ve said they would”, state department spokesman John Kirby said.
“Gen Raheel Sharif, got a warm embrace from the Pentagon last fall?despite the ISI support for the Afghan Talibans offensive against the Kabul government and despite the Pakistani military backing of terror groups like JeM”, he said.
An official statement said Modi received a call on Tuesday afternoon from Sharif “regarding the terrorist attack on the Pathankot air base”.
“Through timely and prompt action by all agencies, the likely plan of the terrorists to destroy valuable assets of the Air Force has been foiled”, the Indian Defense Ministry had said in a statement at the time. “We should not send money to nations who provide assistance to terrorists”, the Republican lawmaker from Texas said. The operation against the attackers at the IAF base still continues and till now, six terrorists have been killed while one terrorist still happens to be in the compound.
Congress leader Manish Tewari said the real ruler of Pakistan is General Sharif. “These terrorists had come well prepared and were heavily armed” the NSG said in a short briefing.
Gunshots could still be heard from the base on Monday-more than 48 hours after the raid-leading some to question why it took so long to neutralize the six assailants, all of whom were finally killed.
The Congress also termed as the offensive the terrorist attack on the country.
Parrikar visited the Pathankot Indian Air Force base in Punjab on Tuesday along with the chiefs of the army and air force.
The attack on the Pathankot base is widely seen as an attempt to derail recent peace efforts by Pakistan and India. The United Jehad Council said that by accusing Pakistan of every attack, India neither succeeded in maligning the Kashmir freedom struggle nor would it gain anything in the future.
