Convicted killer of 3 women executed in Florida
Oscar Ray Bolin Jr., who is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 6 p.m. EST at the Florida State Prison in Starke, would be the first inmate executed in the state this year.
Oscar Ray Bolin, 53, was set to be given the lethal injection at 6pm on Thursday but filed a last-minute appeal.
Bolin’s attorney, Bjorn Brunvand, said Thursday afternoon that he has filed an appeal for a stay of execution with the U.S. Supreme Court.
Inside the bouquet was a copy of the death warrant Gov. Rick Scott signed for Bolin, NBC reported. Bolin had been scheduled to die at 6 p.m. Thursday for the December 1986 murder of Teri Lynn Matthews.
Collins disappeared from a shopping center parking lot in Tampa the same year, and two months later, Matthews was abducted north of Tampa. Bolin was convicted and sentenced to death for killing Stephanie Collins as well as being convicted and sentenced to death for killing Natalie Holley.
He maintained his innocence in a television interview on Wednesday despite being found guilty 10 times by juries in the three cases.
The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected the final appeal of convicted Florida killer Oscar Ray Bolin, clearing the way for his execution.
The mothers of the three victims attended numerous trials together.
“They’re executing someone that absolutely did not commit that murder”, Bolin said, regarding the death of Teri Lynn Matthews, the case he’ll be executed for Thursday evening. And after four trials, Bolin began serving life in prison in 2012 for Holley’s murder. He claimed that evidence used to find him guilty was planted and tampered with.
While on trial, Bolin and a woman on his defense team fell in love. ‘My conscience is clear. ‘[The families] are not getting any peace by executing me tomorrow’.
“I didn’t do it, you’re not going to believe me, fine”, he said, adding that “After 28 years of this, being in this box for 28 years, it’s a release”. Martinez divorced him and married Bolin, on live TV, in 1996 – 10 years after the slayings. “Now they’re just releasing me”.
During the trial, Bolin’s younger half-brother said he watched Bolin beat Ms Matthews and try to drown her with a garden hose. Bolin was also sentenced to death for one of the other killings.
His cousin told authorities he and Bolin abducted Ms Stowe outside a convenience store and raped her, before Bolin killer her. Texas prosecutors declined to seek an indictment. Bolin Jr, who has been convicted 10 times for three separate slayin…
All of Bolin’s convictions were reversed at least twice due to legal errors, but new juries found him guilty again in all three cases.
