Oculus Rift is now available for preorder for $599.99
Yesterday Oculus VR announced that they’re finally shipping “Kickstarter edition” headsets to folks who backed Oculus’ original crowdfunding campaign, and today, pre-orders for the finished consumer model of Oculus Rift opened.
The $920 gets you a headset, a stationary USB sensor that tracks head movements, an Xbox One controller for games and a “Oculus Remote”, which allows the user to navigate whilst wearing the headset.
Pre-ordering the Rift will also give customers a place in line for advance orders of the Oculus Touch gesture-based controllers. “Bundles that include an Oculus Ready PC and a Rift will be available for pre-order in February starting at $1499″. Oculus mentioned that they are introducing more than 20 game titles for the Oculus Rift for this year, these include Edge of Nowhere and a VR version of Rock Band.
Pre-orders come with Lucky’s Tale, a VR platformer developed by Playful, and access to EVE: Valkyrie through the Founder’s Pack.
Oculus Rift is an expensive piece of hardware but comes with a premium package, as you can see from the photos below shared by attendants at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. Are you going to pre-order one?
Preorders have started for the Oculus Rift, which carries a price tag of $599.
If you decide you fancy an Oculus Rift you’ll get quite a bit of kit for your cash. Or the headsets will each release with similar price points, in which case it seems likely that the plan for VR to break the mainstream will continue to be a long way off. Luckey has said that VR will have a revolutionary impact on the way we communicate and consume entertainment.
