These Secret Netflix Codes Will Unlock Thousands Of Hidden Genres

Netflix is probably the widest and most accepted form of home video streaming that the world has become familiar with.

Netflix makes finding a movie or TV show easy – but not almost as easy as it could. You can continue to watch Netflix the way that you always have, by relying on the search options that naturally pop up.

Rain is expected to return to the Portland area on Saturday, so this might be a good weekend to find out just how much Netflix really has to offer. There are “thousands of secret codes that will give users full access to everything on Netflix”, Britain’s The Independent reports. For example, the numbers at the end of this linkhttp://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/6839 designate a certain category.

Now when you and your family spend all night trying to decide which movie to watch, at least your indecision will be super specific. That’s the opening of the rabbit hole, which is so deep you will get even more lost than you normally do. By changing that number, you will actually come across some show categories you might not have expected. But how cool is it that you can track down Comic Book and Superhero Movies, Movies for Ages 8-10, Film Noir (I will definitely be using this one), or Horror Comedy in one click?

The first is a Google document that breaks down the codes in numerical order whilst the second, Netflix Streaming by Alternate Genre, provides the genres in an alphabetical list. We’ve found two unofficial lists online, here and here. Again, not all of the more niche and wild codes work but a majority of these do.
