Warriors Star Curry’s Return From Injury Cut Short
Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried flew to Portland immediately after being released from hospital after suffering a nasty neck injury against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.
That was certainly the case Saturday, when Green recorded a season-high 29 points, 14 assists and 17 rebounds, outscoring the entire Nuggets lineup in the first quarter and leading the Warriors (31-2) to a 111-108 overtime win. Green, a former Michigan State player who took part of the max deal he signed this summer and turned it into a massive contribution to the university, is averaging 15.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points and Kawhi Leonard added 22.
After being attended to by medical personnel, he left the court approximately 10 minutes after the game ended.
That’s when Marreese Speights took a charge from Denver’s Will Barton.
“Obviously, any time you’re dealing with a neck or back, it’s scary, ” Nuggets guard Jameer Nelson said. “I didn’t see the play”. The Warriors will try to push their streak to 34 straight home wins when they host the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. Before he went down, Faried registered 15 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes.
Will Barton, whose two shots late in regulation forced the extra period, missed an off-balance attempt following Thompson’s go-ahead basket. “So if he’s not playing, somebody else has to step up for him”. Of the four games scheduled this week, three of the teams they face are well under.
Not coincidentally, the Warriors leaped out to a 37-13 lead – their largest advantage after the first quarter since November 2, 1991, when they held a 30-point lead against Sacramento.
Pacers 94, Pistons 82: Paul George scored 21 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Pacers to over the Pistons. When the Warriors drafted him with the final selection of the 2015 National Basketball Association draft, they knew his hip was an issue, and the 19-year-old forward underwent surgery in August to remedy some problems with the future in mind. “When that day will be, I have no idea”. “I expected that out of all of our guys”, interim coach Luke Walton told reporters.
“I’m very proud of the fact we were able to come back, force overtime and come up a little bit short on the road against the world champs”, Nuggets coach Michael Malone observed.
James scored 29 points, connecting on 11 of 18 shots from the field and four of seven from three-point range.
Not bad for a second-round pick and a “role player”, eh?
Barnes missed his 16th consecutive game with a left ankle sprain, and Walton said the forward is getting close to a return.
