Here’s one way to get a cheaper Oculus Rift
Dell did not make Oculus Rift, but Dell sure did become the first one to jump in line to announce its Oculus Rift ready PCs. Sweetening the pot, the Oculus Rift will come bundled with Lucky’s Tale, and EVE: Valkyrie – the highly anticipated sister title to EVE: Online.
As reported by techradar, the deal was revealed by Alienware co-founder Frank Azor and Founder of Oculus Palmer Luckey at a closed event at CES 2016.
Dell and Alienware (which is owned by Dell) are offering a promotion that takes $200 off an Oculus Rift headset if bought with a powerful PC – either the Alienware X51 R3 or Dell XPS 8900. Add Oculus Rift into the mix and the price goes up to $1,800.
A few days ago, we finally found out what the Oculus Rift is going to cost for people who want to get into the new frontier of technology during its first generation.
An Oculus Rift Ready Alienware X51 PC starts at £818.99 with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 745 with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of memory.
For the VR Ready program, the GeForce chips that will be included in the system are the GTX 970, GTX 980, GTX 980 Ti and the Titan X. Of course, aside from these chips, gaming rigs should also satisfy the other requirements stated above.
In comparison, the current expected ship date on the Oculus website is June – and it costs $599.
If you are in the market for a new gaming PC soon, you might be able to save some money on a Oculus Rift virtual reality headset at the same time.
But there is more good news for the gaming community, as Azor concluded his announcement with the fact that they will release an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) gaming laptop. Tonight, Dell and Oculus announced a partnership that would bundle the Rift with an Alienware PC starting at $1600.
