Samsung Reveals SUHD TV Lineup at CES 2016
The announcement of the AddWash technology came just minutes after a discussion of developments in the company’s line of virtual reality products.
Perhaps more practical, all of the company’s 2016 smart TVs will blend traditional TV, streaming services and gaming devices into a single viewing experience through an updated version of the Smart Hub operating system [Image shown: Samsung G6 Signature OLED 4K Smart TV].
The smart home concept was a recurring theme in the news conference, with Samsung also introducing new Internet-connected appliances.
While Samsung’s ‘Evernote fridge’ from 2013 was little more than a novelty concept, the new Family Hub refrigerator, unveiled today at CES, is a much stronger attempt to reboot the kitchen appliance. “All you need is one Samsung Smart TV”. As a result, all of their upcoming Ultra High Definition TVs will theoretically be able to control other domestic objects based upon this platform, including lighting systems, door locks, and cameras-in effect, their smart TV acts as the smart home control hub. The answer lies in its ability to inform its users or owners if they need to buy a particular food item, notify them if these food items are on sale and even allow their owner to order them. It is fully capable of recognizing set-top-boxes, OTT boxes, Blu-ray players, game consoles as well as other connected devices immediately.
As to whether this particular fridge will arrive Stateside or not, that remains to be seen. A motion sensor on the windows will also alert the user through a smart TV when detecting any unusual movement outside the home. The 21.5-inch screen can be used to watch TV by mirroring with a Samsung Smart TV.
Samsung, one of the biggest phone manufacturers in the world today, was expected to drop the Samsung Galaxy S7, its next flagship smartphone during its exhibit at the electronics show.
CES 2016 begins this week but already Samsung might have landed itself the award for the best gadget of the year in the form of its new and frankly absurd Family Hub Refrigerator.
