The largest lottery jackpot to date was won in three states in March 2012, when the Mega Millions drawing reached a whopping $656 million.
According to theLotter.com, which sells tickets for lotteries around the world, Canadians previously had to visit a US state if they wanted to buy an American lottery ticket.
Ppowerball’s Saturday jackpot climbed to an estimated $800 million.
The estimated jackpot for Saturday’s drawing was increased to $800 million Friday morning, up from $675 million the day before.
No one matched Wednesday’s winning numbers for the monster $500 million dollar drawing, so the jackpot rolled over hitting another record. Because the payout is based on sales, the prize has grown more quickly as the jackpot has increased because more people have been drawn to play. “Many lotteries believe that they would violated state and federal laws is they paid on those tickets purchased (if actually purchased) by an unlicensed reseller”.
Powerball fever continues across the country and here at home as Saturday’s estimated jackpot will be the largest in USA history at an estimated $700 million.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 292 million.
The largest Powerball prize ever awarded in Pennsylvania was a $110.2 million cash-value jackpot claimed by a New Jersey couple in May 2004.
The most winningest “Pick 5” numbers are 14 and 17.
The odds of winning that prize are 1 in more than 900,000.
Contestants with winning tickets valued at less than $600 should go back to the retailer to collect their winnings. In fact, over the course of one year, nine tickets sold in North Carolina won $1 million to $2 million prizes.
