Vermont deli near Trump venue didn’t sell bologna special
Though security attempted to weed Sanders supporters out at the door by allowing only people willing to say they were Trump voters to enter, numerous Vermont senator’s supporters made it inside, heckling Trump in larger numbers than he is used to handling.
“I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools, and – you have to – and on military bases”.
As Obama discussed his executive actions aimed at expanding background checks during a CNN-hosted town hall in Fairfax, Virginia, Trump berated the existence of “gun-free zones” and touted the benefits of law-abiding citizens carrying a gun.
That’s because, if you take Trump’s words at face value, he is not simply proposing to repeal the federal law that created gun free zones at schools.
For one protester, Trump said, “Confiscate his coat!”
Trump said he could likely reason with any of his hecklers, “unless they have a substance-abuse problem – which is probably there”.
He said he’s feeling better about Nevada, which holds its caucuses on February 20, and where Sanders, Clinton and former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley all appeared at a dinner Wednesday night hosted by the state’s Democratic Party.
Meanwhile inside the Flynn Theatre Donald Trump took to the stage and roused his supporters by praising Vermont.
“We have more than 20,000 people that showed up for 1,400 spots”.
In 2000, when Trump advanced the notion of a Reform Party presidential campaign, he shared his desire to ban all “assault weapons” while increasing the waiting period required for purchasing a firearm.
Trump nevertheless praised the fact that protesters help draw the cameras to show off his massive crowd sizes: “That’s why I love protesters”, he said. The anti-Trump protests in a park across the street from the event included silent vigils, marchers chanting, “Racist, fascist, anti-gay, Donald Trump, stay away!” and “Don’t give in to racist fear, refugees are welcome here”. “Tell him we’ll send it back to him in a couple of weeks”. “I like that he says what everybody else is thinking and that he intends to act on what he says”.
And while he’s set his sights on fighting Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the general election, he also hinted at a taste for another battle. Supporters of Trump were aided by the campaign, which sought to screen those in line to ensure they really backed the candidate.
During his speech, Donald Trump targeted his fellow Republican, Ted Cruz, but Hillary Clinton and her husband, alongside Mr. Sanders, were mentioned as well.
For those remaining in the theater (that weren’t refused or ejected) additionally faced the rabid paranoia and vitriol common at Trump rallies. I didn’t want people to get hurt. “My first day, it gets signed, OK?”
Trump also spoke at length about Sanders, criticizing the way he responded to Black Lives Matter protesters at an event in August and accusing him of wanting to raise taxes to 90%.
So more than a few eyebrows raised when news arrived on New Year’s Eve that Donald Trump was coming to Burlington’s Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. He told a story he said was related to him by Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr about a New Hampshire woman who defended herself against a criminal. He and I both want to run against the other. That’s something I’ve confirmed by talking to numerous sources and different campaigns.
